FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No, a referral is not required. You can make an appointment directly here.
What format do appointments take?
Appointments can be in-person or by telehealth (virtual). An initial consultation is between 60 - 90 minutes duration, depending on how much we have to cover. Your second appointment is 60 minutes in duration and is usually held a week after the initial consultation. Treatment officially begins at that time, when we go through our plan in detail.
Appointment fees cover the cost of the appointment itself and any work that is prepared in advance of your appointment or as follow up, all of which will be emailed through to you.
Depending on your health goals, we would usually schedule a follow-up appointment of 45 minutes duration around 4 to 6 weeks later. For most people, this is all that is needed unless some long-term accountability or adjusting of your plan is required.
How much are appointments?
Initial $150
Report $90
Standard $80
Lab results $150-$200
Can I claim a health fund rebate?
Yes, depending on your fund and level of cover. Please inquire with your fund directly to see if you are eligible.
Does Medicare cover nutrition consultations?
Unfortunately, no. Nutritionists don’t work under Chronic Disease Management plans (formerly EPC) or NDIS (unless privately managed). Payment is required in advance for virtual appointments or at the time of your appointment if in person.
Why do I have to pay in advance for virtual appointments?
As a one person operation, I don’t have the time or resources to chase payments. If payment is made prior to a virtual appointment, I can then focus my time and energy on your consultation and subsequent treatment plan. An unpaid appointment is considered unconfirmed and could be instead given to someone on my waitlist. Please communicate any payment concerns by email.
Do you work with children?
Yes, newborn babies right through to teenagers are welcome. The beauty of nutrition is that adjusting the way someone eats is as non-invasive and as close to risk free as you can get! Fussy eaters are tricky but not impossible to work with. A committed parent is all that is needed.
Do you guarantee your approach will fix my health concerns?
No. There are never any guarantees but what I can guarantee is my commitment and attention to detail. The more complicated your health concerns are, the more time it may take to see improvements but I’m as committed to helping you as you are open to sharing your journey.
Will I have to buy and take a thousand supplements?
No! I strongly disagree with throwing a heap of expensive supplements at a problem. Yes, I can make targeted recommendations to support your health goals but I don’t stock a dispensary so you will never be put in a position where you feel obligated to pay a lot of money for supplements that you may not even need. I use an online dispensary, which you can access and decide at home if any recommended nutritional products fit your budget. You can then purchase them directly and have them couriered to you. Most of my recommendations will involve changing your diet - food comes first!
Do you offer functional medicine testing?
Yes. We can investigate your health concerns through blood, saliva, urine, or stool with a myriad of tests, including, (but not limited to):
-DUTCH (comprehensive hormone analysis)
-Gut microbiome testing (through several labs, including but not limited to: GI Map / Co-Biome / GI360 / Complete Microbiome Mapping)
-Organic acid testing (OAT and OMX Metabolomics)
-Hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA)
-Food intolerance testing (IgG - ImuPro)
-Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth
-Comprehensive thyroid testing (check more than just TSH - look at levels of FT3, FT4, and thyroid antibodies)
-Homocysteine levels
-Genetic variant (SNP) testing
-More detailed, cutting edge cholesterol testing: LDL particle size / Lipoprotein (a)
